Radio (2003) 🌽🌽🌽

Writer's picture: Dave CobbDave Cobb

An important example of telling a real story to give representation to many who need it, Radio is not without its flaws but also has a lot of heart. The performance of Ed Harris carries this movie as far as it goes

As my dear friend put it, this movie provides representation and exposure to life situations not everyone is aware of and that is always a good thing

However I have mixed feelings about Cuba Gooding Jr’s performance my hope is that it was true to the real life man. It does bounce between chanting, sympathetic, to a bit too heavy handed.

One thing I now noticed is just how off a lot of the music is in this film, a film called radio for heaven’s sake. Some musical cues, mostly OST, are just off and bad. Take away from some really good scenes.

The pacing of the movie is not great. Slow, then fast, slow then fast again. Threw me off would have liked football season bit to be slowed down as we see the team’s relationship with Radio grow and change instead of just being montaged.

Overall I find this movie worth the watch; the real life story has such a heart warming end. But the writers lacked the proper finesse to give this story the best film possible. And let me reiterate I really enjoyed Ed Harris’s performance. Especially the barber shop speech
