For everything the 2018 sequel got right, the follow up gets completely wrong. It only took until the second movie for Gordon Green and company to ask âwhat kind of new kills can we doâ instead of asking âhow can we crank up the tension
Itâs bad. I donât want to get into too much of spoiler territory but Halloween Kills killed my interest in the third movie coming out next year.
Itâs a low-stakes kill fest. All the murders have little to no tension, are extremely predictable even by horror movie standards and the movie gets into ridiculous territory with what Michael Myers just walks away from.
Yes, I know thatâs status quo for horror movie icons, but they come from humble beginnings and remind you, in this current meta Michael hasnât killed for 40 years and he killed 3 teenagers. He didnât survive anything absurd (not that I recall) and everything felt grounded.
Until this movie decided ânah eff that letâs go nutsâ and lotta people like that. I am not one of them. And it doesnât make for a good horror movie either.
Itâs not good. And Iâm not sorry about it. The 2018 one was so good and this went over like a lead balloon.
